The Best Day Ever
May 15th will always be remembered as “The best day ever” for the Bonus family. We were 1 or 2 lucky families from Miracle League of Northeast Ohio to attend a Cleveland Indians game, complements of the Indians and their Miracle League Monday’s program.
We were first greeted by our energetic host, Lauren. She took us directly down onto the field where we watched batting practice and saw players doing their exercises and drills. Being on that field is just an awesome experience after watching it on TV or even in the seats. Brady, Lauren and Andrew could hardly wait to meet the players. Each of them brought a baseball to collect signatures on. Andrew had dreams of meeting Corey Kluber, so he wore his new jersey, hoping to get it signed.
As the players wrapped up their practice, many of them made their way over to visit us. What stands out, in my mind, was how kind so many of them were. In particular, Jason Kipnis. We had badges on with our names on them to identify us and allow us access to the field. Jason came up to Brady, got on his eye level, shook his hand and said “Hi Brady, my name’ s Jason. I like your shirt.” He signed all of the baseballs and took photos with us. “Jason” made some fans for life that day!
We also met Fransciso Lindor (whom we found out, everyone calls Frankie!), He was a fun and cool guy. It was Michael Brantleys birthday and we were able to wish him a happy birthday. It was also neat to see all the players and their special gloves. Many of them were Indians red or blue and embroidered with their names. I doubt I would have noticed that had I not been on the field.
“Mom” brought her 1997 All Star game baseball, just in case we were able to see coach Sandy Alomar. Lucky for us, after “Dad”razzed him, he was happy to come by.
Andrew was able make his dream come true! As Corey Kluber walked by us, we asked him to stop by and sign for us. However, he had work to do, but said he would be back. Being a man of his word, he came right back to us first thing. He said “Hi, I’m Corey”, and shook Andrews hand. I didn’t think Andrew was going to be able to speak! He was so nice and signed his jersey and our baseballs. He is just such a nice and kind man.
We didn’t want to leave the field, but then we HAD to go to our CLUB LEVEL seats, and were able to enjoy all that the club level lounge had to offer. As Andrew said “This is the life!”.
What a wonderful experience! I know we will never forget our day.
Thanks Cleveland Indians and Miracle League!
